In light of Selena Gomez’s revelation of her recent kidney transplant, CBS3 reporter, Stephanie Stahl, interviewed Dr. Pooja Singh, director of the Living Donor Program at the Jefferson Nicoletti Kidney Transplant Center.
The singer/actress has been struggling with lupus, which ultimately caused Gomez to require a kidney transplant. Dr. Singh said Lupus “can affect any organ system in your body. It can affect your heart, muscle, joints, skin and it can affect your kidneys.”
Selena’s friend donated a kidney to her. Singh suspects Gomez will do very well because, “The best outcome in terms of the quality of the kidney, and in terms of longevity of the recipient, is with a live donor transplant.”
