It’s National Donor Day, a time to think about all those in need of organ transplants.
Did you know that more than 121,000 people in this country are currently waiting for a new organ?
That includes more than 12,000 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Yet only a fraction of those waiting for a life-saving transplant will get one this year.
“The gap between donors and recipients is widening and that means that every day there are sick patients dying on the waiting list because there are not enough donors,” explains Jefferson transplant surgeon Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD, director of the Division of Transplantation and surgical director of the Liver Tumor Center.
Did you know that one donor can save the lives of eight people waiting for transplants?

You can help. Register as a donor and make sure to tell your family of your desire to be an organ donor. If you live in Pennsylvania or even if you don’t, learn about The Donate Life PA Act.
