Jefferson Pediatrician Interviewed about Probiotics and Children on FOX Good Day

vitamin and supplementsA probiotic is either a food or supplement that has bacteria in it that can be beneficial to your health.

Jefferson pediatrician, Dr. Judith Larkin, talks with FOX Good Day about whether or not parents should give their children probiotics.

Dr. Larkin explains, “The evidence is not really strong that probiotics would help for most things but we do have some evidence that they are helpful if your child has an acute illness causing diarrhea.”

She also says that probiotics may be beneficial if your child is given an antibiotic. While we want antibiotics to kill the bad bacteria, it is not good if they also kill the good bacteria. In this case, a probiotic may be worthwhile.
